After years of working with my son who has Down syndrome, tutoring reading, and most recently teaching my grandchildren to read, I -- along with a friend who is a creative artist -- developed a reading program for FAMILIES to teach young children to read.  Since many of us have the privilege and opportunity to be with our grandchildren, it is especially meaningful for us.  Case in point:  recently my oldest granddaughter, Katelyn, age 7, introduced me to one of her friends as follows:  "Kylie, this is my Omi.  She taught me how to read."
